Die Stadt der Zukunft

Strandbühne

Die Stadt der Zukunft – „the city of the future“ is made of vibrations.

It started with a hybrid guitar called Techtar. This instrument resembles an electric guitar—its six strings are automatically plucked by actuators, while the frets are fretted by hand. Then there's the robot bass called Pythagotron, a stretched string on which a carriage moves up and down; the string is plucked by a motor, and another motor determines the pitch. The third instrument has no name—it's a mechatronic harp that conjures triads, three strings, three ways to automatically set them in motion, four frets.

Frank Piesik, Alex Böll, and Gregor Hennig operate these machines and distort their sounds with all sorts of things; the music is improvised, hypnotic, compelling. If this is the city of the future, perhaps there is still hope.
